Session Description

In this community case study session, Alison Burrows will discuss a new podcast about parenting that she is developing. Alison is the head of the department of education and early childhood studies at Middlesex University Dubai, and she is becoming increasingly worried about how difficult it is for parents to make choices about how to raise their children. With so much parenting information available, parents wonder, what’s true? What will work with their children?

With this podcast, Alison intends to share parenting insights through conversations with amazing people who are parents themselves, struggling to make the right choices for their families. Her goal is to provide research and information so that listeners can make informed choices about their parenting.

The key questions that Alison would like to explore with the interstory community during this session are:

  • What are the pressing topics around parenting right now? What questions and discussions should she be having with guests?
  • What should the tone of the podcast be? How can she get listeners to relate to the content and listen from beginning to end?
  • Who should the guests be? “Regular” parent, experts, researchers, celebrities? Do you know people who might be a good fit?
  • What should the format of the podcast be? Length? One guest per episode? Episodes based around a theme with multiple guests?

About Alison

Alison was born and raised in New York City and lived there until she moved to Dubai 12 years ago. She is a doctoral candidate and Merit Scholar at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in education technology for K-12 environments. She is also the recipient of the Aileen and Gilbert Schiffman Fellowship for research in education technology.  She completed her Master of Education at New York University in New York City.

Alison is head of the department of education and early childhood studies at Middlesex University Dubai. She teaches courses across the undergraduate and post-graduate programs in education theory, leadership and management, special education needs and disabilities, curriculum development, and teaching and learning.  Alison is currently creating a Master of Education Technology program to be introduced and integrated into Middlesex University Dubai and London in September 2022.
