Bridging the Gap Between University and Employment

Bridging the Gap Between University and Employment

Supporting graduates in securing employment through workforce readiness training, career coaching, and industry experience projects.

The Concept

After over a decade of designing and delivering university preparation, scholarship, and graduate development programs for clients across the region, Bon Education recognized a persistent gap: young people were entering the workforce without the practical skills needed to secure and succeed in long-term knowledge sector employment. In response, Bon Education developed Bon for Work - a proprietary workforce readiness and talent development program for university students, recent graduates, and career starters. The program equips participants with the tools, experiences, and mindsets required to compete for and thrive in roles across the private sector, priority industries, and the social sector.

The Opportunity

Despite significant investment in higher education worldwide, a persistent gap exists between what graduates know and what employers need. Across the region, universities, government clients, and corporations with a vested interest in the talent pipeline lacked a ready-made, proven solution to bridge this divide. The opportunity was to create a program that could serve multiple client types simultaneously - developing youth employability while giving organizations a credible, structured mechanism to identify, train, and connect with the next generation of professionals.

Our approach

Bon for Work is built on three interconnected pillars, each targeting a distinct stage of the employment journey.

Get-the-Job Skills

The program equips participants with the foundational skills needed to enter the job market with confidence. This includes career visioning and planning, CV development, elevator pitches, networking strategies, LinkedIn optimization, and interview skills - everything a candidate needs to present themselves effectively to prospective employers.

Work Experience

Bon for Work bridges the experience gap by connecting participants directly with industry. Through curated industry experience challenges, mock and real interviews, connections to internships, and direct introductions to hiring companies, participants gain the hands-on exposure that employers expect and that most graduates lack.

On-the-Job Skills

To ensure participants not only secure employment but succeed once hired, the program covers the professional skills that drive performance in the workplace: general communication, presentation skills, work and time management, design thinking and creative problem solving for business, personal leadership, being effective on the job, and building professional relationships.

Underpinning all three pillars is Bon for Work's active learning model - learning by doing through skill-building exercises, simulations, and case studies; guided practice through small group work with seasoned career coaches; and real deliverables that demonstrate learning in action.
